Monday: Today, we discussed dimensioning and specifications for placing dimensions correctly on a drawing. Students were given a handout of the Letter E and were asked to dimension the drawing exactly as illustrated in the book. This drawing, with dimensions, will be due on Thursday.
Tuesday: Today, our student body went to Frontenac High School to hear a presentation over drinking and driving, and its impacts on families. No Class.

Monday: Today, students continued working on Figure 3-69 on CAD. This drawing is due on Tuesday.
Tuesday: Today, I was not at school, so students were assigned to continue work on our last project. If completed, then they had the opportunity to pick a drawing of their choice and draw it on CAD for extra credit.
Wednesday: Today, many students were gone due to field trips and sickness. Students had the opportunity to catch up on whatever they needed to work on.
Thursday: Today, we began our first section on Architectural History, which covers Ancient Egypt. Students were assigned to read through an article called "Building the Great Pyramid." Students also were asked to complete a QAR activity in which they had to answer a few questions and identify question types over key points of the article. QAR is one of the Reading Strategies that we use for State Assessment Preparation. We also took a short field trip as we talked about the Great Pyramid of Giza, discussing its size and how it was built.
Friday: Today, we continued our discussion of Ancient Egypt, talking about the Pyramids, Temples, and Rock Cut Tombs. We also began a video called "Engineering an Empire; Egypt."

Wednesday: Today, we discussed how to draw round and curved surfaces using CAD. Students learned about the circle command and mirror command. Students were assigned to draw figure 3-87: Armature Support, which will be due tomorrow.
Thursday: Today, students finished up on Figure 3-87: Armature Support. Once finished, students were asked to begin Figure 3-69.
Friday: Today, I showed students how to draw Figure 3-69 on the overhead. Once finished, students were asked to duplicate my process to draw Figure 3-69. This Drawing will be due on Monday.

Monday: Today students were once again given a handout and were asked to complete geometric constructions using the compass and triangles. This handout focused on drawing tangent arcs, octagons, and line segment divisions using these basic tools.
Tuesday: Today, students used the class period to complete the handout given on Monday.
Wednesday: Today, students began drawing Figure 4-78 from their text. The rough draft for this drawing is due tomorrow, with final copy being due by end of period tomorrow.
Thursday: Today, students from Mechanical Drafting and Design presented their catapult/trebuchet designs to class and demonstrated their ability to launch a golf ball in competition with one another. Once finished, we used our remaining time to do a math strategy for state assessment preparation. This strategy focused on finding Mean, Median, and Mode from a data set. We also used the data set to create both a Stem and Leaf and Box and Whiskers Plot.
Friday: Today, students drew their final copies of Figure 4-78 by tracing their rough drafts onto Border Template handout. Final draft was due by the end of the period.
Lessons Plans for the week of September 21 - 25
Monday: Today, we discussed how to draw circles using the circle template. Accuracy, finished line quality, and lettering all factored into final grade.
Tuesday: Today students were given a handout and were asked to complete geometric constructions using the compass. Handout focus was segment, arc, and angle bisections using the compass; and angle and triangle constructions using the compass.
Wednesday: No class today!!!! Teacher Inservice.
Thursday: Today students were again given a handout and were asked to complete geometric constructions using the compass and triangles. This handout focused on drawing different polygons using these basic tools.
Friday: Today, students continued working on construction handout from Thursday. This drawing was due by the end of the period.
Lessons Plans for the week of September 14 - 18
Monday: Today, students were given a handout called the "Alphabet of Lines." Students were to reproduce the different line types commonly found in a set of blueprints. This assignment will be due tomorrow by the end of the period.
Tuesday: Today, we discussed measuring using the standard ruler and scale. Students were assigned to measure various line segments and identify the measure to the nearest 1/16th of an inch.
Wednesday: Today, students were allowed to work on whatever they needed to for other classes. The 3rd year Mechanical Engineering class also is taught during this period and those students needed to go to the shop for materials preparation and cutting for their project.
Thursday: Today, we discussed measuring using the metric ruler. Students were assigned to measure various line segments and identify the measure to the nearest millimeter. We also discussed the compass and students were assigned to make line segment bisections using only their compass.
Friday: Today, we discussed appropriate use of the compass. Students were assigned to draw various circles using the compass. To do this successfully, students had to convert measurement from diameter to radius. Accuracy, finished line quality, and lettering all factored into final grade.

Monday: No School. Labor Day!!!
Tuesday: Today, we discussed how to use some of the basic mechanical drafting tools; T-Square, 45 degree Triangle, 30/60 degree Triangle. Students were given two handouts which required them to draw horizontal lines, Vertical Lines, 45 degree angled lines, and 30 degree and 60 degree angled lines. These handouts will both be due tomorrow.
Wednesday: Today students participated in a school assembly which used up most of 1st hour. When students returned, they were asked to continue working on the "Lines" handouts from yesterday. These will now be due tomorrow.
Thursday: Today, students were given a third handout over drawing lines. This handout was over drawing lines at both 75 and 15 degree angles using a combination of both the 45 and 30/60 degree triangle. This drawing was due by the end of the period.
Friday: Today, students watch the video "Build it Bigger." No Assignment!!!
Lessons Plans for the week of August 31-September 4
Monday: Today, we discussed lettering styles used in the drafting profession. Students were given a lettering handout and had to write the meaning of abbreviations commonly found in blueprints, using the proper lettering techniques discussed. This handout will be due tomorrow by the end of the period.
Tuesday: Today, we compared student lettering assignment. Students were assigned a numbering assignment which will be due tomorrow.
Wednesday: Today, students were required to redo the lettering assignment from Monday. This lettering assignment will be due tomorrow.
Thursday: Today, students were asked to sketch the Trojan Head Logo. It had to be enlarged to fit the size of paper we were drawing on. Centering, accuracy, proportion, and line quality will all factor into scoring their finished product.
Friday: Today, students continued working on Trojan Head Logo Sketch. This sketch will be due on Tuesday.

Monday: Today, we discussed sketching and techniques for success. Students were assigned to sketch a Rhino from the text using grid as a means of measurement. This sketch will be due tomorrow.
Tuesday: Today, we evaluated the Rhino sketch; accuracy, line quality, and centering techniques. Students were given two handouts over sketching lines with emphasis on improving line quality. These two assignments will be due tomorrow.
Wednesday: Today, we discussed how to sketch circles and students were assigned to draw a grid sketch of an ATV from their text book. This drawing will be due on tomorrow.
Thursday: Today, students were assigned another grid sketch of the Power Boat from their text book. This sketch will be due tomorrow.
